“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new lands but seeing with new eyes”. Marcel Proust
Pam & I (Jehane) embarked on our 9th annual trip to Tanzania, 5 suitcases filled to the brim- 50lbs each with medical and school supplies. We were greeted by our ever faithful Fathers Beatus and Damian at the airport. We had the pleasure of meeting Fr. Damian a few years ago when he was a seminarian. He’s been newly ordained as an ALCP priest.
We were able to fulfill all of our commitments to our students this year. For some students, we are still waiting for the results of their form IV exams, but our intention is to honor their efforts and progress and see that they are able to complete their studies.
We were able to gift each of the dispensaries and health centers with $2K each. It was money well spent, used to purchase medications and IV supplies. Charlotte Health Center has performed several emergency C-Sections, which require a lot of fluid resuscitation. They are doing a great job within the community. We also had the pleasure of meeting a team of husband and wife surgeons from Germany, specializing in performing hernia and goiter surgeries on patients and attending to their post-op care. It is wonderful to be able to join hands with people across continents to provide help to those less fortunate.
We gifted Fr. Beatus with $15K to start construction on the doctor and nurse’s quarters at Lekrumuni. Once built, Lekrumuni dispensary will be open 7 days a week (instead of 2), providing care for the surrounding communities.
During our stay at Sabuko, we were honored to participate in the ordination of ALCP priest Fr. Joseph Mlola to Bishop. In attendance was Bishop Ludovick Minde, also from the ALCP community. The celebration lasted several days. It was a euphoric feeling to be amongst so many priests and nuns, totaling well over 200 in attendance.
We were again able to visit Niruvande school for orphans with Eli. We purchased food for them and also donated $500 to help defray some of the cost of caring for these students. The students happily received the pens and pencils we brought with us, thanking us with their smiles and laughter.
We spent a total of $40K on this trip. It is thanks to your generosity and your ongoing support throughout these years that we were able to accomplish so much on this trip and throughout the past 9 years. May you be repaid a hundred fold for all your deeds.
With much gratitude
Pam and Jehane (on behalf of T.H.E. Mission)
